To all our visitors: Welcome to Alaska—savor this moment!
To all the men and women who have sacrificed their lives so that the free world might remain free—we salute you.
My small hometown of Nephi, Utah, has always gone “all out” to remember and honor this day. I can still look back more than seventy years ago and recall the profound respect our community held for those who died in uniform.
Back then, it was known as Decoration Day, a solemn occasion when our family would place flowers on the graves of those who died defending our freedom. While at the cemetery, we also brought flowers to honor grandparents, uncles, aunts, and dear friends.
That tradition continues today—not only in Nephi, but in towns, villages, and cities across America.
May we enjoy this day with gratitude, for those we honor made our enjoyment possible.
